UNUSED BMC 1.5ltr Diesel Marine Engine,

adapted for marine use by Newage Marine.

Welcome to this auction for this UNUSED 1.5ltr diesel BMC Marine Engine with Hydraulic Transmission which I am listing on behalf of a friend. This engine was modified for marine use by Newage Marine, originally destined to power a generator on an offshore platform or barge so it is fitted with a very sensitive govenor to maintain engine speed under change of load.

I have only listed this engine as used as the paintwork has got a bit tatty over the years and it is obviously several years since it was built!!!

The Transmission has had some prior use in a seagoing boat, I will try and work out the reduction ratio and add a photo of the gearbox soon.

The engine was never used by the original owner and remained crated until sold as surplus stock and acquired by the current owner about 15 years ago. At that time it was removed from its crate, had the marine hydraulic transmission fitted and was bench tested. It was then filled with oil and dry stored until now. My friend now accepts that he is never going to complete the boat he intended to put this engine in and has decided it is time to clear his garage. Some parts have been removed for storage, (i.e. the starter) but I am assured that all parts are there and will be included in the sale. I checked this engine over last week and I was able to turn it over without any undue difficulty.

The item is located in South East Cornwall near Callington (PL17 postcode area), I could strap it to a pallet and send it by courier at the buyers expense, (you will need a fork lift at your end to unload), but personal collection would be much preferred.
The gearbox is a Borg Warner Velvet Drive 71B - 1:1 Drive - It comes with operating / service manuals which cover the 70C, 71C & 72C models which I imagine are similar to this one, it certainly looks the same to my eye!

There is a new Leyland Service / Repair / Operation Manual for the engine.

The engine appears to be fitted with a standard BMC water pump and does not have a water cooled exhaust manifold so I assume it is intended to be run with some form of keel cooling system.

I can put the whole lot on a pallet and send it to the winning bidder specifying a tail lift delivery for £75 - £100 to most places within the U.K. This may be a bit more if you live somewhere remote or far north.
